MG CORPORATION BUSINESS UPDATE |
|
The big economic news story from MG Corporation is the signing of the $12.5 million Aboriginal Development Package agreement with the State Government on the first of September 2009.
The Aboriginal Development Package is a requirement of the Ord Final Agreement and is an essential and integral part of the Ord Irrigation Expansion Project, as such it has been the subject of intense focus by both the State and MG Corporation over the past nine months and the timely signing of the agreement is a significant step forward for both the project and the Miriuwung Gajerrong people.
The principal aim of the Aboriginal Development Package is to ensure that all of the Miriuwung and Gajerrong people have an opportunity to participate fully in the opportunities that are now on our doorstep.
The Package covers several main areas, employment and training; tender opportunities for goods and services; development and support of Miriuwung Gajerrong businesses; consultation; Aboriginal Heritage and Culture; the acquisition of farmland entitlements in the proposed Ord Irrigation Expansion Project; facilitation of the ADP; and strategic investments.
Funded until 30 June 2012 with a possible two year extension, the Aboriginal Development Package will enable MG Corporation to focus on employment, training and business opportunities for Miriuwung Gajerrong people and the Corporation itself as well as building commercial relationships with local suppliers and contractors to maximise the region’s benefit from the project.
